Packaging Clerk

The Packaging Clerk coordinates and expedites the flow and reconciliation of work and materials within or between departments of an establishment according to production schedule. Their duties include reviewing distribution, production work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work and production.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compiles and records production data for industrial establishment to prepare records and reports on volume of production, consumption of raw material, quality control, and other aspects of production, performing any combination of following duties: Compiles and records production data from such documents as, work tickets and product specifications following prescribed record-keeping procedures, using typewriter, computer terminal, and writing instruments.

  • Calculates factors, such as types and quantities of items produced, materials used, amount of scrap, frequency of defects, and worker and department production rates, using adding machine or calculator

  • Writes production reports based on data compiled, tabulated, and computed, following prescribed formats

  • Maintains files of documents used and prepared

  • Assist the department as needed.


Required Skills & Abilities:

  • The Production Clerk needs knowledge of production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods

  • The Packaging Clerk needs knowledge of arithmetic, administrative/clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records


Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of successful experience in manufacturing

  • Candidate must successfully complete the training program within the allotted time

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences

  • Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques

  • Needs the ability to speak clearly so others can understand any instructions or direct commands

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide two-digit numbers

  • Ability to calculate simple statistical data such as the average and range of a series of numbers

  • Good oral and written skills plus basic high school math

  • Work as a team member and demonstrate leadership capabilities
